Owners Pia and Thomas Holm from Sweden have been living in Phuket for around six years, and decided to embark on a new project after their management contract expired at a local bungalow resort. The couple found an ideal plot of land and invested around THB18 million building their own mini golf course and restaurant. Using know-how and technology from their homeland, they created an 18 hole course with all the characteristics you'll find on a full blown fairway and more.
The charming course took about four months to complete and is set amongst palm trees and bamboo, with winding walkways, rock features, running streams, bridges and a shady sala. A great feature is the lush green grass, but there are no chemical fertilisers or mowing required to maintain its manicured look, because it's actually high quality artificial grass.
Upon arrival, customers are greeted by a member of staff who assists with their golfing or dining arrangements. For golfers, there are various sized putters available suitable for adults and children aged four and upwards. Before commencing a few simple rules are explained, then armed with a score sheet you are ready to play.
The course takes around an hour to complete, with the winning player having the least amount of strokes and points. Each hole has an instruction diagram showing an easy and difficult way to get the ball in the hole. The course is just like a championship course with hills, gently sloping greens, and plenty of obstacles like bunkers, rivers and boulders. There are some surprises and challenges along the way making it enjoyable for all abilities. The course has even attracted some serious golfers who put their putting skills into practice.
The length of the course feels just right, but for afternoon players sun screen is recommended as there are few shady spots on the course. For a cooler game, try early in the day before lunch or during the evening as the opening hours are from 11am right through until 11pm, with the last game commencing at 9.30pm. The golf course is illuminated at night providing a fun activity while gently working off an evening meal.
The prices are reasonable, walk in customers pay THB280 for adults and THB200 for children, with special rates for locals. Larger groups and parties can pre-book for lower rates, such as school groups who only pay THB70 per student. Pia currently advertises six packages for parties that include a round of golf and a meal with prices ranging from THB450 to THB850 per person. However, Pia is happy to tailor make arrangements for any large celebration, and already has a booking for a wedding party.
The 80 seat restaurant is open sided to enjoy the cool outdoor breeze and features a long bar with stools for those that just want to have a drink. The large menu has a wide choice of dining options with Thai and western favourites, however pizza is the speciality, cooked to perfection in the professional pizza oven.
The restaurant caters to children well, with a selection of simple dishes that they will enjoy. Pia also has many plans for the future such as introducing dining specials and brunches at the restaurant to help attract customers that are not so familiar with mini golf.
With a formula of great food, service and a mini championship golf course, Phuket Adventure Mini Golf is well worth a visit. Its affordable, accessible and a fun way to spend a few hours with friends and family.
